I'm a Canadian multidisciplinary artist who works in fibre arts, writing, and music. I worked primarily in performance until 2015 when I became disabled with post-viral ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome).
I was about to start a Substack newsletter months ago but then the whole Nazi debacle happened so I started crossposting on Ko-fi, my personal blog, and Medium. But in the last few months I've discovered a vibrant community here of artists, SciArtists, disability advocates, and Stoics, all three of those communities ones I feel connected to. So here I am.
The Slowest Thread will likely mostly be updates on my various projects with a few other long form pieces thrown in. I work slowly because of my disability, but I create consistently, shifting media according to my physical and cognitive energy. If you want a more in-depth piece on my work, this essay— published on Medium as part of the In Corpore Sano series—is an excellent introduction to my writing and fibre art, and explains why I no longer perform.
I've been writing creative work updates over on Ko-fi for about a year, and will be posting those here for the foreseeable future. I may also publish some other long form pieces but I'll see how things progress. I've turned on paid subscriptions if you'd like to support my work that way, but I plan to keep most things free for the moment.
I've recently completed a music project that I'll share more about soon. In the meantime, here is an embroidery piece related to that music project: sensorium (2016)
Looking forward to learning more about your work and your approach to making work. I really enjoyed the medium piece.
“So what happens when we, as artists, spend years of study in a medium or craft and then it is lost to us?”
Is a question I actively meditating on and struggling with. I was a longform writer and performer, and I am still in the messy process of finding new ways to create from inside the straitjacket of this disease. So glad to encounter your art and writing.
